Mission
Founded in 1936 to promote the interests of domestic shipowners, the Association continues today to closely monitor all initiatives affecting its members.
The Association's active members are primarily Owners of Canadian flagged tonnage. Nearly 70 vessels of different types comprise the Association's fleet, all of which are manned by Canadian seaferers. The domestic operations of Association members generate a substantial economic benefit to the domestic economy.
Members's vessels trade primarily in the St. Lawrence and Great Lakes as well as serving the lower north shore, the Canadian Arctic, Magdalen Islands, the Maritime provinces, Newfoundland and Labrador and foreign destinations. Locally shippers are thus given access to a wide range of markets thanks to the wide-range of services offered by domestic shipowners.
The Association has more than 50 Associated Members. These organisations include Maritime Agencies, Classification Societies, Shipyards, Attorneys, Port Authorities, Naval Architects, Stevedores and many others who provide goods and services essential to the maintenance of a vital maritime industry.
It has been calculated that a single Canadian flagged vessel generates more than $1,000,000 in tax revenue to different levels of government. The combined resources of domestic shipowners benefits both local industry as well as the country as a whole.
The Association is proud of its role in assuring the continuing economic contribution of a dynamic Maritime industry.
